About Us/Donations

Our department is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit fire and rescue organization located in southern Bedford County, Virginia. Founded in 1956 and incorporated in November 1957, we are the third oldest (of twelve) fire companies in Bedford County. We serve a permanent resident population of approximately 11,000 persons at 4,865 addressed structures in a 100 square mile first due response area. We service this area with nine trucks and two command vehicles operating out of three stations. Our first due area includes about 22 miles of shoreline at Smith Mountain Lake, a 22,000 acre recreational and power supply body of water in three counties.

We serve our community with over forty dedicated volunteers. In 2010 we responded to 365 calls, 321 in 2011 and 298 in 2012.

Our annual budget is about $150,000. We receive approximately 45% of this amount from county and state funding. The remainder comes from our fundraising activities and donations. The Upcoming Events page lists our various fundraising activities as well as PR events we will be attending. Please help us to serve you by attending our fundraising events to support our department.

We're glad you came to visit us! Please sign our guestbook.
