Truck in to tree on Goodview Rd.

     Tuesday, January 17, 2011 at 18:24 pm.  Moneta Fire Department, along with the Moneta Rescue Squad and BCoFR career personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Goodview Rd. and Horse Shoe Bend Rd. for a single vehicle crash. On arrival crews found a small pick up that had gone off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.  Moneta Rescue transported two PI to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Units on the call were: E-8, W-8, R-8, M-84, M-85, M14-8.

Barn fire on Bold Branch Rd.

 January 10th at 1:24 pm units from the Moneta, Saunders and Bedford Fire Departments along with Bedford County career staff were dispatched to a barn fire at 1787 Bold Branch Rd. in Moneta. County 10 and Medic 14-8 arrived ten minutes later to find a 30’x30’ barn containing about 170 hay rolls that was fully involved with most of the structure down and some extension to the adjacent woods. The perimeter was controlled and several spot fires in the woods were extinguished and small burning trees cut  down. No attempt was made to put out the hay rolls. A fire line was cut through the woods adjacent to the barn by the property owner. The last units cleared at 3:30 pm. The fire was started by heat from a piece of machinery that was parked and running inside the structure. There was a $30,000 fire loss to the building and contents.

Units on scene were Wagon 8, Tanker 8, Brush 8, Engine 10, Brush 10, Brush 10A, Command 10,                                         Wagon 1, County 10, Medic 14-8 and Medic 1-1.

 Car runs off road into back yard

Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 4:31 PM the Moneta Fire Department along with Moneta Rescue Squad and the BCoFR career ambulance from Moneta were dispatched to 7030 Moneta Road for a reported motor vehicle crash with the vehicle in the back yard of the residence. On arrival responders found a subject who had been traveling south on Moneta Rd when he had a medical emergency during which he vehicle veered to the left going through the side and rear yards of 7030 before coming to a stop. The driver and only occupant was removed from the vehicle by fire/rescue personnel after popping the driver’s door and transported to BMH. Units on the call were: W-83, B-82, C-82, M14-8.

   


 Entrapment on White House Rd.

     Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 9:03 PM the Moneta Fire Department, along with the Moneta Rescue Squad and BCoFR career personnel were dispatched to the 3100 block of White House Rd. for a single vehicle crash with entrapment. On arrival crews found a Ford Escort that had gone off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree at the driver’s door. Crews spent half an hour working to remove the driver from the vehicle and she was subsequently airlifted to an area hospital by the Centra 1 helicopter. Fourteen Moneta Fire members responded to the call. Units on the call were: R-8, W-82, W-83, B-8, C-82, M-84, M-85, M14-8 and County 10  

          

         


 

December 6, 2011 15:36 - R-8 runs SOC in Co. 13

 

Company 13, Squad 4, Medic 14-13, SOC and County 10 were dispatched to Sandy Level Rd and Goodview Town Rd. for a vehicle off the road on it side in the ditch with one person still in the vehicle. Medic14-13 was first to arrived to find one car on it side with one person still in the car. Per Medic 14-13 all SOC can clear. 

 


December 6, 2011 07:12 - VDOT asphalt roller on fire

Company 8 was dispatched to 1572 Radford Church Rd. at the Area VDOT shop for a vehicle on fire. While responding  the workers at VDOT dumped loads of dirt with a loader to try to suppress the fire. Asst. Chief Nelson arrived to find a asphalt roller fully involved and established command . B-8 and W-83 extinguished the fire.

October 08, 2011 - Vehicle Accident With Entrapment

Company 8, Squad 8, Medic 14-8 and County 10 were dispatched to White House Rd and Radford Church Rd for a two vehicle MVC with injury and entrapment. Assistant Chief 8 (Nelson) was first arriving to find the same with one patient still in the vehicle and another who had self extricated. Upon the arrival of Wagon and Rescue 8 the vehicle was stabilized and the driver extricated by removing the passenger side door of the overturned vehicle. Company 8 cleared the scene shortly after turning the patient over to EMS and securing the hazards.

 

 

   

 


 

 

 

 

Monday, August 15, 2011 -  At approximately 1545 Medic 14-9, Squad 1, and County 10 were dispatched to stage in the area of Haven Heights Drive for two patients with suspected gun shot wounds. Company 1 (first due), Company 9 (second due), and Company 5 (RIT) were dispatched shortly after due to smoke showing from a residence the shooter had gone into. The two gun shot wound victims were transported via Lifeguard 10 & 11. The standoff lasted for approximately 2.5 hours. At 1830 deputies allowed response from the apparatus on standby as heavier smoke began to show from the residence. An unconscious victim was located in the basement. Fire was marked under control at 1936. Units on scene: W-1, R-1, T-1, U-1, R-5, W-9, T-9, W-82, T-8, R-8, Medic 14-9, Medic 14-8, County 10, County 3, County 4, and AIR 1. Units standing by at Company 1: W-8, W-83, and E-2.
